Flat double knitting
Flat double knitting is a much easier technique than you might first think. The result looks great and very neat. However, you should keep in mind that - as unspectacular as the technique may be - it is somewhat time-consuming. In this example, I'll show you how to increase stitches in a row for double knitting, how to double knit them, and how to bind off at the end.
You will also need the following techniques: M1L (increase 1 purl stitch), looping on stitches. Again, there are additional tutorials you can look at if you are not familiar with those techniques. This tutorial refers only to flat double knitting.

Start the row with a k1. Then a p st is inc by M1L.

= 1 p st increased.
Continue alternating these two steps: k1, M1L.
At the end of the row work the last inc by looping on a st.
You have now doubled all the sts on the needle. Turn your work and start with a k1 (= the st you looped on before).
Then sl the next st p-wise with the yarn in front of the work (= sl st is a k st from the row before).
Follow with a k1 (= inc st from previous row).
Repeat the two steps of sl1, k1 until end of row.
Continue flat in this alternation of k1, sl1 p-wise until your desired length is reached. The last st of the row is always a p st to be slipped, the first is always a k st.
When you have reached your correct length, you can cast off the sts. Start the row by knitting 1 p st and 1 k st together = 1 k st.
Knit the next 2 sts (1 p st & 1 k st) together. Guide the first st over the second = 1 st cast off.
Proceed with k2tog and guiding the first st over the second. Repeat to end of row. Cut the yarn and pull it through the last st.
