Slanting decreases - k2tog & ssk

When knitting, it is possible not only to decrease stitches, but having them slant to one side or the other. These decreases are part of the basic equipment of a knitter and should therefore be in your repertoire.

A right slanting dec (k2tog) and a left slanting dec (ssk).

Right slanting decrease - k2tog

Insert the right needle in the next 2 sts on the left needle.

K the sts together = k2tog.

Left slanting decrease - ssk

Sl the first st as if to k.

Repeat for the second st.

Sl both sts back on the left hand needle.

Now dec by k through the back loop of both sts.

The dec is now finished and is slanting towards the left.
